Shadowexchange vesting

For Shadow Exchange on Sonic, completing an xSHADOW vest over 180 days returns the full underlying SHADOW. The documented instant-exit route deducts a 50% penalty. Vesting preserves more tokens at completion, but the amount committed loses voting and rebase participation during the wait. During the initial 14-day window, cancelling a vest returns xSHADOW. After that window, redeeming before completion pays SHADOW with a penalty.

What changes between an instant exit and vesting?

xSHADOW is a non-transferable representation of SHADOW held in escrow, with one unit of SHADOW backing each xSHADOW. The redemption ratio measures token quantities; it does not fix their market value.

Redemption routes under Shadow Exchange’s documented xSHADOW terms
Comparison Instant exit Vesting
SHADOW received 50% of the underlying amount after the documented 50% penalty. 100% of the underlying amount at 180 days. Cancellation during the initial 14-day window returns xSHADOW. After that window and before completion, redemption pays a reduced SHADOW amount according to the applicable vesting penalty.
Time commitment No vesting wait for xSHADOW that is available to redeem. A staked balance may first be subject to withdrawal restrictions. The full redemption requires 180 days from the start of vesting.

An instant exit suits a need for earlier liquid SHADOW when surrendering half the backing is acceptable. Full vesting suits a holder who prioritizes recovering the backing and can wait while giving up participation through the committed amount. Neither route establishes which outcome will have the higher market value.

When can a vest be cancelled or redeemed early?

Shadow’s xSHADOW documentation allows cancellation only during the initial 14-day window, returning xSHADOW to the holder. Cancellation reverses the vesting commitment; it does not pay out the full backing in liquid SHADOW.

After that window expires, the vest cannot be cancelled back into xSHADOW. Early redemption into SHADOW remains possible, with the penalty that applies to the elapsed vesting time. An intermediate exit therefore needs its own redemption ratio. The instant-exit percentage should not be reused as the payout rule for every unfinished vest.

The vesting clock begins when the vesting position is created. Time spent holding SHADOW or xSHADOW beforehand does not complete part of that term.

What participation does vesting give up?

The amount placed into vesting loses its voting power and does not earn new exit rebases while vesting. Keeping xSHADOW in active staking preserves participation, subject to the relevant reward requirements. Eligibility for the full weekly reward set requires staking and voting during that epoch, with the stake in place before the epoch flip.

Penalties from instant exits and unfinished vests fund exit rebases for xSHADOW stakers in proportion to their positions. Rebase income varies with the penalties collected and the participant’s staked share, so it supplies no fixed return to compare with the redemption penalty.

Can a staked balance exit immediately?

Withdrawing staked xSHADOW and redeeming xSHADOW for SHADOW are separate operations. Shadow’s published VoteModule staking implementation restricts deposits and withdrawals during its rebase cooldown for addresses without an exemption. Governance can change the timing and exemptions in that implementation.

The instant-exit conversion therefore does not guarantee immediate access to a staked balance. Its actual withdrawal availability depends on the applicable deployed staking contract and settings; the published code alone does not establish those live settings.

A hypothetical comparison of 372 xSHADOW

Hypothetical input: 372 xSHADOW, with the entire selected amount assigned to either redemption route. Applying the documented 50% instant-exit penalty gives 372 * (1 - 0.50) = 186 SHADOW, with another 186 SHADOW forfeited. Completing the documented 180-day vest instead returns 372 SHADOW.

Waiting preserves an additional 186 SHADOW under those terms, provided the vest reaches completion without early redemption. This compares redeemed token quantities and excludes any value assigned to forgone participation rewards or future SHADOW prices.

Changing the selected amount scales both endpoint payouts proportionally under the same terms. Changing the vesting exit time can change the redemption ratio, so the full-vesting result cannot be carried over to an earlier exit.

Details worth knowing about Shadowexchange vesting

Does holding x33 remove the need to consider the xSHADOW exit penalty?

No. x33 is liquid staked xSHADOW with automated voting and reward claims, and it can be traded on the open market. Its structure does not waive xSHADOW’s underlying redemption penalties. A market sale depends on the trading price and is a different outcome from completing a vest to recover the full underlying SHADOW.
